UPDATE: Ermelo Volkswagen employees come to elderly woman’s rescue

Employees of Ermelo Volkswagen helped an elderly woman, along with her dog and two puppies out of the house. 

ERMELO – Highvelder spoke to staff members from Ermelo Volkswagen, who assisted the residents of a flat in Dennehof, where a fire broke out earlier today, July 24.

According to them, they saw flames and smoke coming from the building next to them through one of the windows of their workshop.

The employees rushed to the gate and shouted to find out if there was anyone inside of the house.

According to one of the employees, a woman opened the gate, and they saw a white Suzuki on fire in the carport.

The workshop manager and a saleswoman from Ermelo Volkswagen, who did not wish to be mentioned by name, jumped over the gate at the back and broke down the door to get inside the house.

They helped an elderly woman, along with her dog and two puppies, out of the house.

“They rushed to get fire extinguishers from Ermelo Volkswagen to extinguish the fire,” said Sarah Mhlanga, a fellow employee.

Another person with a bakkie assisted the employees in pulling the Suzuki out of the garage.

The Msukaligwa Fire and Rescue Services were also dispatched to the house, where they tackled any remaining embers and ensured that all potential risks were thoroughly addressed.

The workshop manager told Highvelder they did not help the resident to get credit for it, but did it because the residents was in need.
