Driver and passenger seriously injured in accident outside Ermelo

The cause of the accident is as yet unknown, and the Ermelo SAPS is investigating a case of reckless or negligent driving.

ERMELO – An accident involving a Scania truck with two trailers and a VW Polo occurred about 5km out of town on the N17 at about 04:15 on June 4.

According to Captain Carla Prinsloo, spokesperson for the Ermelo SAPS, the VW Polo was trapped under one of the trailers.

“The driver was trapped in the vehicle and was freed by the intervention of the fire brigade,” Prinsloo said.

The Polo driver and passenger were seriously injured, while the truck driver suffered no injuries.

The provincial ambulance services, Msukaligwa Fire and Rescue Services, the traffic department, local SAPS, ETS Towing Services and Van Wettens Towing Services were all on the scene.
