Police nab four men with firearms and ammunition in Hendrina

Upon further search inside the vehicle, more weapons were discovered, including three 9mm pistols, one revolver, one rifle, one shotgun and 71 rounds of ammunition for various calibres.

HENDRINA – The police nabbed four men, aged between 23 and 45, at a shopping centre on May 5, and recovered six firearms with ammunition.

According to Colonel Donald Mdhluli, a provincial police spokesperson, some members of the SAPS were patrolling in town where they were checking in on various businesses.

“It was during this time they noticed something sinister about an employee of a retail store who seemed to be troubled. They were informed there were armed suspects in the vicinity,” Mdhluli said.

The police approached a Toyota Starlet which was parked next to the retail shop, with one person inside. A search was conducted and two firearms were found.

They proceeded with the man to a nearby shop where three other men were arrested on charges of possession of firearms.

Upon further search inside the vehicle, more weapons were discovered, including three 9mm pistols, one revolver, one rifle, one shotgun and 71 rounds of ammunition for various calibres.

Though the case has not yet been enrolled in court pending further investigation, the firearms were confiscated by the police and the weapons will undergo ballistic testing.

The four men were released pending this investigation.
