Hundreds of protesters unite at Msukaligwa Municipality in Ermelo

A community leader Jama Madi was reportedly detained last night at Acasia, where demonstrators burned tires, according to reports from other organizers.

Numerous protesters have gathered outside the Msukaligwa Municipality to demand the resignation of the mayor.

Businesses were invited to shut their doors and join the demonstration as the massive group of demonstrators marched by.

A community leader Jama Madi was reportedly detained last night at Acasia, where demonstrators burned tires, according to reports from other organizers.

In the interim, he was released and has now joined the crowd.

Right now, protesters are calm, and everything appears to be peaceful.

Police are also present and keeping an eye on activities.


Tension builds amid protest in Ermelo

Residents gathered at the old Sanlam centre, to march to the Msukaligwa Local Municipality.

The strike is a reaction to the municipality’s failure to make any headway in enhancing the provision of services related to electricity, water, and the general infrastructure.

Businesses in CBD are closed as employees joined the protest.

Not too long after the gathering, a large group of protesters dispersed and headed towards Spar after an incident sparked tempers.

Protesters, moments ago, passed Pas Attorneys and seem to be making their way towards the municipality via Kerk Street.
