SACCW cautions homeowners of people they let into their homes

The suspects pretend to view the home and steal from the property when one of them asks to use the bathroom

ERMELO – The South African Community Crime Watch (SACCW) warned homeowners to be cautious as to who they let in their homes.

“We have received confirmed information that there are persons pretending to be employed by estate agents in Ermelo, who want to make an appointment to give the homeowners a free valuation of their property or want to view their homes for sale,” said Theo Craven, a SACCW member, in the warning. He encouraged residents to not fall for this and to end the call immediately.

Craven further said in the warning the suspects, who pretend to view the home, steal from the property when one of them asks to use the bathroom.

“Do not allow persons other than your assigned agent with a buyer on your property.

“All prospective buyers should be accompanied by the agent who has the mandate over your property.”

Incidents were confirmed in eMalahleni on August 12, and Craven said they had experienced previous incidents in Ermelo as well.
