Police nab 2 suspects after fatal shooting in Chrissiesmeer

The officials recovered a firearm with ammunition, which is believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.

The Ermelo K9 unit and local police arrested two men in connection with the fatal shooting of a businessman on July 31.

According to Colonel Donald Mdhluli, a provincial police spokesperson, the man (63) was shot inside his vehicle while he was travelling with two others to the Kingdom of eSwatini.

The two occupants reportedly escaped without any injuries.

“A detective from Chrissiesmeer police was about to knock off after his routine patrol, when he was alerted about the incident.

“As he drove to the scene of the incident, he spotted a grey Audi Q5 SUV without number plates driving at a high speed,” Mdhluli said.

The officers pursued the car and after a brief chase, they successfully cornered the two suspects.

Mdluli said upon searching the vehicle, the officials recovered a firearm with ammunition, which is believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.

The firearm will go for ballistic testing to determine whether it had been previously used in the commission of crime elsewhere.

The police cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges against the suspects at this time.
