Piet Retief Police nab man in possession of suspected stolen vehicle

The police requested the vehicle's documentation. The driver allegedly produced fraudulent paperwork.

A 44-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear in court today, 14 June, after being apprehended by police in Mkhondo (previously Piet Retief) with a suspected stolen Toyota Rav4.

Police received information from car tracker company regarding a Rav4 that was allegedly stolen in Rosebank in June which was spotted traveling from Ermelo to Piet Retief.

The vehicle was located and stopped after members responded to the tip-off.

During the police investigation, the suspect claimed he was en route to deliver the vehicle to a customer.

The police then requested the vehicle’s documentation. The driver allegedly produced fraudulent paperwork.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Piet Retief Magistrate’s Court today on charges of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle and fraud.

In the meanwhile, police cannot rule out the possibility of adding another charge of theft of a motor vehicle.

Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga SAPS, praised the SAPS and the car tracking team for their collaboration in apprehending the alleged culprit.
