Three arrested after foiled truck hijacking in Carolina

The incident was reported to the police, who came across a vehicle matching the description of the VW Golf at about midnight, and one of the occupants was wearing clothing matching the complainant’s description.

CAROLINA – Three suspects were arrested after their attempt to hijack a truck was foiled by another truck driver on September 30.

According to Colonel Donald Mdhluli, a provincial police spokesperson, it was reported that one of the suspects boarded the truck while it was driving and held the truck driver up at gunpoint.

The truck driver behind them realised what was happening, and flashed his lights and blew his hooter to distract the hijackers.

“The suspect was probably frightened. He alighted from the truck, got back into their VW Golf and fled the scene with the other suspects,” Mdhluli said.

The incident was reported to the police, who came across a vehicle matching the description of the VW Golf at about midnight, and one of the occupants was wearing clothing matching the complainant’s description.

The three suspects were arrested and the VW Golf was confiscated.

“As the investigation continues, the suspects could also be possibly linked to other previous hijacking incidents.”

The suspects, aged between 28 and 45, are expected to appear in the Carolina Magistrate’s Court as soon as all the investigative processes are finalised.
