Former mayor of Mkhondo elected as whip of council at Gert Sibande District Municipality

The Speaker of Council councillor Busisiwe Sekhonde led the election process where Mtshali of the African National Congress (ANC) received the most votes and has since been elected to office.

ERMELO – The Gert Sibande District Municipality’s (GSDM) Council elected the new Whip of Council Clr Bhekabantu Hamilton Mtshali during a virtual council meeting on July 22.

This follows the recent passing of Clr Siboniso Gladson Trevor Nkosi, the previous Whip of Council.

The Speaker of Council councillor Busisiwe Sekhonde led the election process where Mtshali of the African National Congress (ANC) received the most votes and has since been elected to office.

Mtshali, who is originally from Mkhondo (formerly Piet Retief), has been an ANC councillor for many years and has been trusted with many responsibilities in a variety of positions, most notably as Executive Mayor of Mkhondo Local Municipality from 2011 to 2016.

He is a husband and a father of three children.

In his response to the election, Mtshali expressed humility and appreciation to all council members from various political parties for the new position, and vowed to continue the good work that the previous incumbent had begun.

Members of various political parties congratulated him on his new position.
