Parents take part in parenting programme in Ermelo

Masina emphasised that raising a child requires a village

ERMELO – Parents embraced the duty of ensuring they restructure and enhance their parenting techniques in a programme held at the Jesus Worship International Church on July 3.

Various stakeholders including the Department of Social Development (DSD), CMR Child and Youth Care Centre, Ermelo police members, and the Department of Health participated.

The DSD’s assistant probation officer, Sbusiso Mnisi-Masina, said parenting has a significant influence in a child’s development and it can be challenging for parents to follow effective techniques, especially if they lack the necessary expertise.

The programme also aimed at engaging fathers and encourgaing them to be present in their children’s lives.

Masina emphasised that raising a child requires a village, and parents should constantly seek support from the relevant departments as they navigate this emotional roller coaster.

“We are fortunate to have the chance to have such an event at a house of worship because we are aware that the spiritual and psychological aspects of parenting go hand in hand. Our goal is to motivate parents, especially men, to be present in their children’s lives. Making sure that children are well cared for is not just a mother’s responsibility,” Mnisi-Masina said.

He expressed his gratitude to parents for taking the time to attend the programme and for coming to find out more about how to succeed at good parenting.

“Parenting is not an easy journey, and it is always simple for others who are not in this path to judge from the outside. This programme is also to provide parents with the necessary resources to raise children. We want them to understand that we are also parents and that we are fighting side by side with them to achieve proper parenting,” Mnisi-Masina said.
