AMSTERDAM – An 28-year-old man will appear in the Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on June 8 in connection with two counts of rape of his grandmother and cousin as well as house robbery.
The incident happened at about 03:00 on June 5.
According to Brig Selvy Mohlala, a Mpumalanga police spokesman, the suspects is an undocumented citizen from eSwatini.
“It is alleged that the 87-year-old woman was woken by her grandson who instructed her to keep quiet and raped her,” Brig Mohlala said.
The man then went to his cousin who was asleep in the same room, and allegedly also raped her.
He demanded his grandmother’s social grant money, and fled the scene.
Brig Mohlala said the victims reported the matter to the police the next morning, who found the suspect and arrested him.

Manamela, has expressed her shock regarding the incident and applauded the police in Amsterdam for his arrest.
“There is no place for criminals in the province, especially those who abuse women and children,” she said.
