Wesselton residents bear the brunt of water shortages
The area's residents have been without running water for the past three months.
WESSELTON – Due to the water shortage in the area, the residents of Extension 1 have no alternative but to rely on murky water delivered by Msukaligwa Local Municipality’s (MLM) water trucks.
Highvelder paid a visit to the area on May 13 and saw how locals, young and old, got into verbal altercations with one another over the water delivered.

According to the residents, one municipal water tanker is scheduled to serve 17 areas in Ward 4, leaving some without access to water.
Some voiced their concerns, alleging that the area has been without clean running water for three months and they must drink, bathe in and cook with water from a well near the informal settlement.
They said they have to carry water from the well to their homes in open buckets and/or wheelbarrows.
One resident, Ms Thandi Zwane, said she cannot carry heavy objects for long distances due to her asthma.
“I’m upset about this, since I’m alone and have no one to help bring water from the water tanker to my home. Now I have to rely on one of the locals to help me carry the water, and they’re not always available to assist,” she said.
The residents of Extension 1 are not the only ones affected by the water shortages in the area.
Residents of Khayelihle made a point of protesting at the municipal buildings on May 9 to convey their dissatisfaction.
