VIDEO – Friends use proceeds of selling food to fix roads in Cassim Park

Mr Dendar said he and his friends contemplated all the ways they could positively impact the infrastructure in the area, and decided to just jump into action and began filling up potholes.

CASSIM PARK – What began as a lonely endeavour by Mr Muhammed Faiyaaz Dendar, soon gained traction.

He not only contemplated making a difference in the community, but noticed the roads in the area he lives was riddled with potholes, and began filling them up straightaway.

Soon after, a few friends noticed and partnered with him.

They are now leading their own initiative to fill potholes through filling up stomachs.

The group of friends use the proceeds from selling food to the community and using the profit to buy materials to repair potholes.

Simply put, residents contribute towards road maintenance by paying for and filling up their stomachs with tasty meals.

Highvelder spoke to Mr Dendar and Mr Riaz Mahomed, who said, “This began through some friends in the Muslim community wanting to make a difference.”

Mr Dendar said he and his friends contemplated all the ways they could positively impact the infrastructure in the area, and decided to just jump into action and began filling up potholes.

Soon they realised that through the community’s involvement, they might be able to achieve even more.

“If our actions inspire others to also start their own initiatives to make a difference in the community, that would be wonderful.”
