Nine-year-old shot and killed with stolen firearm in Wesselton

He was taken to Ermelo Provincial Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

ERMELO – The police are investigating a case of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, after a nine-year-old boy was shot and killed in Ext 1, Wesselton, on February 14.

Vuyolwethu Genius Ndabeni was staying with his grandparent at the time of the incident.

According to Capt Carla Prinsloo, the spokesman for the Ermelo police, a 50-year-old man had visited the house of the boy’s family, showing his grandfather the firearm.

“It is alleged that while he was removing the magazine, a shot went off and hit Vuyolwethu in the face,” Capt Prinsloo said.

He was taken to Ermelo Provincial Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

During further investigations, the police discovered that the firearm had been stolen during a housebreaking in Ermelo in 2019.

The suspect has been arrested.
