ERMELO – The Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) recently appointed members of the mayoral committee (MMCs) who will lead seven portfolios within the municipality.
The MMCs are full-time office bearers and have been appointed by the new executive mayor, Cllr Walter Mngomezulu.
They are:
- Cllr Flora Maboa-Boltman – chairman for the corporate services portfolio
- Cllr Nomkhosi Zulu – chairman of the community and social services portfolio
- Cllr Phalaborwa Malatsi – chairman of the infrastructure and technical services portfolio
- Cllr Bheki Buthelezi – chairman of the planning, economic development and innovation portfolio
- Cllr Bethuel Zunguza – chairman of the financial services portfolio
- Cllr Busisiwe Mkhwanazi – chairman of the special programmes portfolio
- Cllr Banana Mollo – chairman of the monitoring and evaluation portfolio.
The mayoral committee serves to assist the mayor by offering advice and making decisions with regards to designated powers in conjunction with the mayor, who is the chairman of the mayoral committee.
All final decisions are, however, made by the mayor.
The Gert Sibande District Council has been determined as a category C municipality with a mayoral executive system.
GSDM’s council consist of 48 councillors, of whom 19 are proportionally elected councillors.
