Two boys die in house fire in New Ermelo

“The Three-year-old boy was outside crying and allegedly said his five-year-old brother was playing with matches next to the bed,” Capt Prinsloo said.

ERMELO – Two boys, a five-year-old and eight-month-old died in a house fire in New Ermelo on November 6.

According to Capt Carla Prinsloo, the spokesman for Ermelo police, they have opened an inquest to investigate the circumstances which led to the death of the two boys.

“It is alleged that the 26-year-old mother of three boys, aged five, three and eight-months-old, left her boys sleeping at home and went to buy airtime at a nearby shop,” Capt Prinsloo said.

On her way home a neighbour was shouting that her house was burning.

“When she arrived the house was engulfed in flames.

“The Three-year-old boy was outside crying and allegedly said his five-year-old brother was playing with matches next to the bed,” Capt Prinsloo said.

The three-year-old was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
