Men posing as customers, rob jewellery shop at Ermelo Oak Centre

“The suspects jumped over the counter and randomly grabbed jewellery before fleeing,” she said.

ERMELO – Four armed men, some armed, posed as customers before they robbed a local jewellery shop at the Ermelo Oak Centre on October 16.

According to information received from Capt Carla Prinsloo, the spokesman for Ermelo police, the incident took place around 12:30.

“The owner of the shop and staff were busy assisting customers, when the suspects entered the store and pretended to need assistance,” she said.

She added that one of the suspects produced a firearm and demanded money.

One staff member managed to activate the panic defence system.

“The suspects jumped over the counter and randomly grabbed jewellery before fleeing,” she said.

She concluded that the police have not yet caught any of the suspects.

According to Ms Magda Venter, the Oak Centre manager, the panic button was pressed withing four minutes a reaction unit arrived.

The police arrived shortly thereafter.

The vehicle was a white Toyota Corolla with a MP registration plate.
