Woman confined to bed for over 6 months receives wheelchair from Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality

"The wheelchair will give her mobility and access to things she did not have before," Mr Thapelo Phetla, spokesman of CALM, said.

The Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality (CALM) donated food parcels to a vulnerable family on 5 August.

The office of the Executive Mayor, Cllr Dan Nkosi, received a letter from a community member who indicated the family was in dire need of assistance.

Apart from the family having fallen on hard times amid Covid-19, one of the family members is an invalid.

She is unable to walk and has been confined to her bed for more than six months.

The municipality therefore also donated a wheelchair to the family, enabling the woman to move about.

“The wheelchair will give her mobility and access to things she did not have before,” Mr Thapelo Phetla, spokesman of CALM, said.

“It will also give her hope and will improve her quality of life.”

The family welcomed the donation and thanked everyone who assisted them.

They also encouraged the office of the mayor to assist other families who might also be in need.
