Msukaligwa Fire and Rescue Services attend to house fire in Cloete Street

The Msukaligwa Fire & Rescue team were, however, quick to respond and firefighters worked tirelessly to bring the blaze under control.

Smoke bellowed from a house at 46 Cloete Street during a house fire at about noon on 6 August.

The month of August is synonymous for it’s strong winds, and this largely influenced the rapid spread of the fire through the house.

The window closest to the origin of the fire gave way and due to the prevailing strong wind, the fire was driven into nearby rooms and roof void.

The Msukaligwa Fire & Rescue team were, however, quick to respond and firefighters worked tirelessly to bring the blaze under control.

The fire truck’s water canon was also utilised to spray water on the house’s roof as firefighters entered the residence.

Bystanders, lured by clouds of smoke, stood in awe as they watched the fire causing extensive damage to the property.

The road and house was barricaded-off in order for firefighters to be able to work effectively and uninterruptedly to extinguish the fire and ensure the safety of everyone involved.

However, according to Mr Mandla Zwane, spokesman for the Msukaligwa Municipality, the public interfering with firefighters while they were setting up fire lines to attack the fire, was a hindrance.

“The public failed to stay clear of the work area (fire),” he said.

According to Mr Zwane, the fire was caused by an electric fault.

Mr Samuel Linda, whose daughter, Ms Nelisiwe Sithole, stayed in the house, arrived at the scene, and was anxious and concerned for his daughter’s safety.

The distraught Mr Linda said: “I stay in Sheepmoore and was called about the fire at the house.”

He was glad to learn that no-one was injured during the fire.
