Gert Sibande District Municipality updates on office closure due to Covid-19

According to Ms Ka Dube, the total number of recoveries remain at three while deaths remain at one.

Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) reported three new cases within it’s offices on 4 August.

As such, the main office complex in Ermelo was temporarily closed while disinfection took place on all affected workstations and areas.

According to Ms Bongi Ka Dube, spokesman for the GSDM, contact tracing was also carried out.

The offices opened its doors again on 7 August.

Employees worked from home to ensure business continuity.

“We would like to ensure the public that essential services which are critical for service delivery, will not be affected.

“We report that as of 4 of August, the total accumulation of confirmed Covid-19 cases in our workplace stands at 17 including the satellite offices in Govan Mbeki and Dipaleseng municipal areas.”

According to Ms Ka Dube, the total number of recoveries remain at three while deaths remain at one.

This brings the total number of active cases within the Gert Sibande District Municipality to thirteen.

“All the affected employees are receiving the necessary support from the Occupational Health and Safety Unit as well as from the employee’s health practitioners.”

This, she said also includes counselling during the recovery process.

“We reiterate our government’s plea to the public to remain vigilant as we continue to fight the spread of Covid-19.

“We encourage residents to adhere to the World Health Organisation and the Department of Health’s protocols which are to wear face masks, regularly washing hands using soap or alcohol based sanitiser and observing social distancing.

“Together we can fight the spread of Covid-19,” she concluded.
