Ext 7 residents protest outside Msukaligwa Municipality’s offices over water shortages

“How are we expected to wash hands in order to protect ourselves against Covid-19, if we hardly ever have water?” he asked.

Irate residents of Ext 7 have made no secret of their feelings when they protested outside the Msukaligwa Municipality’s (MM) offices on 13 July.

Residents, brandished empty water bottles and others displayed placards, announcing their discontent with the MM over service delivery issues, primarily, water shortages.

A resident told the Highvelder, they have been without water for more than three years.

Ext 7 residents also claim that water tankers come infrequently and unannounced.

“This issue has been pestering us for too long,” one of the protesters said.

“How are we expected to wash hands for 20 seconds in order to protect ourselves against Covid-19, if we hardly ever have water?” he asked.

According to another protester, when water trucks do make their rounds, they deliver dirty water.

“Neither us nor our children can drink this water,” he said.

Grieved residents also stated that waste from blocked drains, now flow down the streets.
