Skets Security officers in Ermelo strike over job security

He claimed that several employees have been fired with the primary reason listed as not following company rules.

Security guards from Skets Project, a security firm, voiced their discontent with management through a strike action in Robertson Street on 22 June.

Protesters are aggrieved about almost 30 employees who have allegedly been unfairly dismissed.

According to Mr Solomon Choma, South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) organiser, there are several issues that Skets Project’s management need to urgently address.

Mr Choma Highlighted two of the main issues being:

• Recognition of the union to form formal relations

• Bonuses that were discussed that were not paid in.

Security guards also listed other pressing issues that they requested answers on.

Mr Choma claimed that several employees have been fired with the primary reason listed as not following company rules.

“There are no elaborated descriptions for these vaguely specified charges,” he stated.

“Several employees have escalated this to the CCMA, have won their cases, but have not yet been reinstated.
