First case of Covid-19 confirmed in Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality

The required procedure has been followed in that the patient has been isolated and placed in self-quarantine when they found out about their status.

The Mpumalanga Provincial Department of Health has confirmed a first Covid-19 positive case in the Chief Albert Luthuli municipal area.

The department’s Outbreak Response Team has been dispatched to compile a list of all the possible individuals that came into close contact with the official from the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport.

Protocols are in place to do contact tracing, which includes family members, co-workers and community members who have been in contact with the individual.

The required procedure has been followed in that the patient has been isolated and placed in self-quarantine when they found out about their status.

Their household has been visited and monitored by the Department of Health in addition, sanitised.

As the municipality, we urge community members to remain calm and to follow the Covid-19 health directives:

  • Frequently wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • When soap and running water are unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand rub with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Practice good respiratory etiquette, including covering coughs and sneezes.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Always wear your mask when you going to public places
  • Keep a social distance of at least 1.5m.

Residents are advised to call the coronavirus 24-hour hotline number on 0800 029 999 with any suspected cases of Covid-19 or they can use the WhatsApp helpline which is available in various South African languages, to access critical information about the virus and outbreak.
