More than 5 000 farmers apply for Covid-19 Relief Fund

Mr Shongwe said: “We know that agriculture is one of the most affected sectors, and farmers need all the help they can get.”

MEC for Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs, Mr Vusi Shongwe recently announced that more than 5 000 farmers have submitted their application for the Covid-19 Relief Fund.

Mr Shongwe said: “We know that agriculture is one of the most affected sectors, and farmers need all the help they can get.”

He is optimistic that the number of applications could be much higher, with online applications that have not been tallied as of yet.

According to a previous announcement by Mr Shongwe, they were aware of the challenges some farmers faced with the collections of identification documents of their workers and bank statements to prove their annual turnover.

At the time a total of 3 047 forms were distributed, but the department only received 754 completed forms.

Mr Shongwe then encouraged all farmers to apply even if they did not have the record documents at their disposal.
