Ekulindeni Police investigate whether local tavern is contravening lockdown regulations

Capt Patrick Shabangu, Station Commander of Ekulindeni Police, conducted the investigations and revealed that no operations are taking place there and that the tavern is closed.

A resident informed the Highvelder of a local tavern that allegedly operates during the national lockdown.

This information was shared with the authorities and an investigation was carried out by them on 12 April to determine whether this was indeed true.

Capt Patrick Shabangu, Station Commander of Ekulindeni Police, conducted the investigations and revealed that no operations are taking place there and that the tavern is closed.

Sgt Mduduzi Nkosi, spokesman for Ekulindeni Police, said: “The owner of the tavern was visited by Capt Shabangu who interviewed him.

“He said the last time he bought stock was when he was allowed to still sell between 9am and 6pm.

Sgt Nkosi said the owner cooperated and opened the tavern for police to have a look and all the refrigerators were empty.
