He urged residents to please still be careful and not let their guard down.

Mr Armand Hilarius, district manager for the South African Community Crime Watch in the Gert Sibande Region, gave a few safety reminders to residents of Ermelo during lockdown on 11 April.

According to Mr Hilarius:

  • Be careful in and around your house as criminals aren’t on lockdown, crimes are still happening.
  • Keep doors and windows closed when leaving the house for essential shopping or medical emergencies.
  • Test your alarms, beams and panic buttons (if you have an alarm).
  • Unplug any unused home equipment during the night.
  • Keep cell phones, back up lights and other emergency equipment charged.

Mr Hilarius said: “With the lockdown extension, criminals are on the hunt.”

He urged residents to please still be careful and not let their guard down.
