A member of Ermelo Feral Watch stumbled upon a horrifying sight of a cat with a string tied around its neck and abdomen on 25 March.
According to Ms Annieka van Eck, from Ermelo Feral Watch, they suspect that someone did this to him when he was still a kitten.
A woman in Naudé Street who fed the cat trying to tame it, informed Ms van Eck of the situation.
Ms van Eck told the Highvelder that luck was on their side when the cat came into the woman’s house and she could close him off in one of her rooms.
She added that they named the cat Wimbeldon.
Ermelo Feral Watch took the cat to the vet for medical care, but sadly it had to be put down due to the extent of its injuries.
His organs could have been crushed and he would have eventually been suffocated by the twine around his neck.
“We want to ask the public not to hurt or poison feral cats and to remember that they are nature’s way of pest control and play a vital role in our environment. ”
