ACSU apprehends three robbers in Ermelo

The reaction team found the vehicle at a Capitec ATM and approached the suspects, when a chase through the town ensued.

A reaction team from ACSU apprehended three suspects on 16 March, who are believed to have been involved in various robberies at ATMs in Ermelo.

The security guard from ACSU responded to information about a suspicious vehicle, whose occupants were allegedly robbing people at ATMs.

The reaction team found the vehicle at a Capitec ATM and approached the suspects.

A chase through the town ensued and the suspects fled towards the Hendrina Road.

Members of ACSU tried to overtake the vehicle in an attempt to stop the fleeing culprits.

According to Captain Carla Prinsloo, spokesman for Ermelo Police, one of the suspects drew a firearm and pointed it at the ACSU members.

“ACSU members exchange fire and managed to apprehend the suspects after shooting at the vehicles tyres, thereby incapacitating the vehicle and forcing it to a standstill.”

Two suspects sustained gunshot wounds and were admitted to Ermelo Provincial Hospital for treatment, while a third suspect with no injuries was arrested.

A licensed firearm, belonging to one of the suspects were retrieved from the vehicle.

Ermelo Police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
