Carolina Police gives safety tips to community

When going away, leave the house keys with someone you trust and who can be able to switch the house lights on and off.

Const Thabang Mokwana, spokesman of Carolina Police, released a media statement with safety tips for the community on the prevention of Crime on 20 January.

They are as follows:

  • Know your police emergency numbers

  • Know your neighbours and build mutual trust with them

  • Never leave your keys under a door mat, flower pot, outside the house etc

  • Make provision for outside lights

  • Walking alone during the night is not safe

  • When going away, leave the house keys with someone you trust and who can be able to switch the house lights on and off.

  • Never leave the house lights on for days, when going away, as they might attract criminals’ attention.

  • Always close and lock doors and windows when going out even if it is for a few hours.

  • Install burglar-proof doors and windows if you can afford it

  • Disconnect landline telephones if you will be going away for a while.
