Load shedding will continue until Friday

Eskom lost additional generation capacity overnight with breakdowns of more than 14 000MW.

Eskom issued a press release and said the system remains severely constrained and unpredictable and thus load shedding stage 2 will unfortunately have to continue from 8am today until 6am tomorrow (Friday, 10 January).

Eskom lost additional generation capacity overnight with breakdowns of more than 14 000MW.

Their emergency reserves are also insufficient to meet the demand for electricity during the day.

As a result they have to load shed throughout the day today until tomorrow.

The press release further stated that their teams continue to work tirelessly to return units from planned and unplanned outages.

Owing to inadequate maintenance over many years, the system remains vulnerable to unplanned outages.

Eskom reminded their customers that load shedding is an essential and controlled measure to ensure that the integrity of the grid is not compromised.

Customers can check their load shedding schedules on Eskom’s website at www.loadshedding.eskom.co.za or contact the call centre at 086 003 7566.

Eskom will give customers regular updates about their prognosis for tomorrow and their recovery efforts for the rest of the week.

They asked customers to reduce the demand for electricity as a concerted collective effort that can help to avoid or reduce the level of load shedding.
