Thokozani Elias Mahlangu (23) sentenced for culpable homicide in Carolina

Const Mokwana said: “A case of murder was opened and later changed to culpable homicide, after the accused pleaded guilty and told the court that it was self defence.”

Mr Thokozani Elias Mahlangu (23) was sentenced in Carolina Magistrate’s Court on 28 August, to six years’ imprisonment for culpable homicide.
According to Const Thabang Mokwana, spokesman for Carolina Police, Mahlangu stabbed Mr Derrick Mokwena with a knife, on 31 August near a tavern in Silobela location.

Const Mokwana said: “A case of murder was opened and later changed to culpable homicide, after the accused pleaded guilty and told the court that it was self-defense.”
He added that they were fighting when the deceased took out a knife and tried to stab him.
Mahlangu overpowered the Mr Mokwena and stab him with the knife.
He died on the scene.
