Four rape cases reported in Ermelo over the weekend

Ermelo Police warns residents not to place them self at risk by walking or travelling alone after dark and to avoid deserted places after dark.

Ermelo Police are investigating four incidents of rape that happened over the past weekend.

The first incident occurred on Saturday, 16 February when a seven-year-old girl complained to her mother about having pain in her private part region, and her mother notice that she struggles to walk.

When she took her daughter inside the house to have her checked out, she told her mother that her stepfather had raped her.

He was arrested by the police and is expected to appear in Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 19 February.

Another incident took place on Saturday, 16 February around 6.30nm when an 18-year-old girl was on her way to Netherland Park.

“When she crossed the railway line she came across a male who asked her where she was going,” Ermelo Police spokesman, Capt Carla Prinsloo said.

The male strangled and kicked her and when she fell, he dragged her to a nearby tree and raped her.

A 22-year-old female reported a case of rape after she went to a tavern on Sunday, 17 February at around 2am near the corner of De Jager and Oosthuize Street.

According to the complainant, she experienced a blackout, and when she came to, she was in a vehicle with unknown occupants. She was taken to a place outside of town, where she was raped and left stranded.

A 53-year-old woman was on her way home from church on Sunday, 17 February at about 4pm when she was approached by an unknown male near the industrial area.

He dragged her to a hidden spot where he undressed and raped her.

The suspect took her phone and fled on foot.

“Parents must be careful who cares for their children and to ensure the person is trustworthy,” Capt Prinsloo added.
