The South African Football Association (SAFA) in the Msukaligwa region, recently held their annual Msukaligwa Festive Soccer Tournament at the Thuthukani Sports Ground in Wesselton over the festive period.

A total of 16 teams from Msukaligwa competed in a season long tournament with winners eventually crowned on 30 December.

The aim of the tournament was to encourage young and all to participate, attend and support sport.

“We picked this time of the year because we saw the need to get the youth involved in something worthwhile rather than consuming alcohol and committing violent acts as seen in previous festive seasons,” said Mr Honey Maseko from the South African Football Association in Gert Sibande District.

United FC from Thusiville defeated Amajananda FC to be crowned winners, walking away with a soccer kit sponsored by the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation (DCSR) and the Msukaligwa Sports Council.

They also received gold medals and a trophy.

Amajananda FC was the runners-up, collecting silver medals, while Masters FC rounded off the podium finishing with bronze medals.

“We would like to thank SAFA, Ermelo Police, DCSR, friends and supporters who played a part in the success of this tournament,” said Mr Blessing Sibande, Chairman of the Msukaligwa Sports Council.
