Dardlea cares for the needy

They were also encouraged to continue caring for the garden that the department has established for them on Mandela Day as this was a means to assist with producing vegetables on their own.

A visit by the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs (DARDLEA) brought jubilation to the residents of Cheshire Home in Elukwatini by donating 19 bags of maize meal to the residents.

Cheshire Home is a non-profit organisation that provides a 24 hour residential care to 51 disabled people.

Expressing words of appreciation for the surprise visit to the centre, the manager of the non-profit organisation, Ms Emmah Lusenga, also raised challenges concerning food, clothes and renovations.

She added that families who have their members of the family at the centre should not neglect them.

Representing the DARDLEA, an official Ms Nomgqibelo Jane Msibi encouraged the residents not to pity, but love themselves because it is still possible for them to pursue their dreams and noting that there are job opportunities available for them.

They were also encouraged to continue caring for the garden that the department has established for them on Mandela Day, as this was a means to assist with producing vegetables on their own.

One of DARDLEA’s mandates are to promote food security for all which also caters for the needs of disabled people.
