As part of their Red October 2018/2019 campaign, the South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Msukaligwa sub-district held a meeting in Sheepmoor on Friday, 7 September to hand over a memorandum with a list of demands over service delivery and the treatment of farmworkers on the small farming town.
The communist party has been protesting against private and public organisations with which they are dissatisfied with and they have been approaching them to voice their dissatisfaction.
The party handed over a memorandum of demands to representatives from the Department of Land Affairs and Land Reform.
Another memorandum was set to be handed over to a representative from Msukaligwa Municipality, but he did not pitch up.
In the memorandum handed over to the department, the SACP demands:
• That an official from the department based in Sheepmoor, is removed as they feel he is not impartial and sides with the farm owner and not the farm dwellers.
• That the department engage with all the farm owners in Sheepmoor to allow farm dwellers to build houses and are given land.
• That the department conduct an investigation into a particular farm between Amsterdam and Ermelo as they need clarity on the ownership.
The newly-appointed director of the department, Mr Linda Shezi, received and signed the memorandum and assured the party members that he would investigate and respond within the allocated tim.
The party gave the department 14 working days to respond.
