Six foreign nationals were arrested and charged under the immigration act on Thursday, 13 September after the Ermelo Crime Intelligence Unit and Davel Police received information about illegal immigrants operating a bakery in the Davel area.
However, according to reports the bakery was infested with rats and surfaces were not cleaned, raising health and safety concerns.
The bakery has been supplying products to Davel and surrounding towns.
Davel Police’s spokesman, Const Portia Nkosi, said the men were arrested under the immigration act and not for operating the bakery.
They appeared in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court and their case was postponed to 25 September.
