The Bembe family of Ext 32 in Ermelo recently received help after various government institutions heeded the call from leaders, including the deputy president, Mr David Mabuza, to assist the family with identity documents and birth certificates and to become part of a food programme.
The family of 19 live in a three-bedroom low-cost house in Ext 32 and relies on government grants to get by in a month.
Reports suggested the children, ranging from infants to toddlers over five years old, were not in school due to a lack of documents.
A ward committee member raised the alarm and requested the Department of Social Development to intervene.
Besides the documentation, the family also received furniture which included a table and chairs, beds, a fridge and kitchen cupboards.
The children have also begun to go to school.
The Bembe family is only one of many families in and around Msukaligwa that is living in poverty and has no identification documents.
