All Section 54 A and 56 manager positions have been filled in the Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) according to the Local Government Municipal Systems Act No. 32 of 2000.
The most recent appointment was that of Ms Ngelosi Ndhlovu as the new general manager: Corporate Services.
During the State of the District Address on 24 May, the executive mayor of GSDM, Mr Muzi Chirwa, expressed concerns that the district was too male dominated both at a political and administrative level and that this trend needed to be corrected.
The district said it was pleased that transformation at the top level has been prioritised with Ms Ndhlovu now heading the Corporate Services department.
The appointment is a milestone as it is the second highest level administratively which, together with the other heads of department, is directly accountable to the municipal manager.
The departments that Ms Ndhlovu will be leading include Human Resource and Administration, Legal Services, Information and Communications Technology and Council Support.
