The Department of Social Development celebrates Child Protection Week in Thusivillage

The province celebrated Child Protection Week with the opening of Tholulwazi Pre-school and handing over hygiene packs to children living with albinism.

The Department of Social Development (DSD) in Mpumalanga celebrated Child Protection Week with the official opening of Tholulwazi Pre-school and the handing over of hygienic packs in Wesselton, Thusivillage on Friday, 1 June.

The provincial celebration was a bid to raise awareness and mobilise all sectors and communities towards holistic development, care and protection of children.

The DSD has dedicated the week of 28 May to 3 June as Child Protection Week and this is part of the government’s focus to ensure the protection and empowerment of vulnerable children, including those with disabilities.

This year the department carried out activities throughout the month and celebrated the week with International Children’s Day on 1 June.

A member of the Executive Council for DSD, Ms BP Shiba, was in attendance and officially proclaimed Tholulwazi Pre-school open.

She also handed out hygiene packs to children living with albinism.
