Sadtu members picket in Ermelo over wage negotiations

“The school programme did not suffer because we presented classes and then joined the picketing.”

Members of the South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) picketed outside the Department of Education’s (DoE) circuit offices in Ermelo recently, over various administrative issues, including salary increases.

The union embarked on a go-slow nationally with wage negotiations currently at a deadlock.

According to the Sadtu leader in Msukaligwa, Mr Dumisa Mango, the members picketed over a number of issues which included among others salary increases, housing benefits and pay progression.

The picketing entered its second week with the union rejecting the initial offer.

“The school programme did not suffer because we presented classes and then joined the picketing,” said Mr Mango.

The picketing will until DoE revises the initial offer.
