Eskom Camden Power Station, in partnership with Rula Bulk Material Handling, recently donated computer centres to six local schools within Msukaligwa at the Gert Sibande District Municipality offices.

This is part of the power utility’s outreach programme where they are driving the spirit of good corporate citizenship.

The six schools were identified through the Department of Educations’ (DoE) Circuit Managers and are the New Ermelo Primary School (Ermelo), Ncikinyane Combined School (Amsterdam), Lungelo Combined School ( Morgenzon), Kwasikhova Combined School (Amersfoort), BEE Maseko Secondary School (Sheepmoor) and Warburton Combined School (Warburton).

Eskom and Rula wanted to leave a lasting impact in the community and decided on the donation which features a completely functional computer centre at each school.

The centres include 10 computers, a printer, hardware (mouse, keyboard, hard drive, monitor), Windows Office Software, an internet connection via a Wi-Fi router, cabling and electrical points, installation, configuration and setups and work benches.

Member of Executive Council (MEC) in the DoE in Mpumalanga, Mr Sibusiso Malaza, gave the keynote address, saying digital literacy is becoming a critical skill for learners in a technology-driven world.

“Computers are common in our everyday lives at home, work, markets and industries and it is important to equip learners as computers are redefining jobs and eliminating others,” Mr Malaza also said.

Dr Namane Magau, representing Rula Senior Management, commended the partnership that government has built with the private sector, saying it is important to strengthen partnerships among all structures of the society for the benefit of the country.

Mr Pro Mkhize, representing Eskom Senior Management, reinforced the commitment that Eskom has towards their communities, not only in corporate social investments, but skills development, enterprise development and business opportunities.

“Eskom is thankful for the opportunity to take part in such a project,” Mr Mkhize said.

He pleaded with school principals to ensure that the equipment be kept safe so future generations can also benefit.

Mr Elton Jones, representing Eskom Group Capital, called on learners to be serious and work towards their future.

He also applauded teachers for their valuable life skills, morals and ethics they instill within our communities.
