Mduduzi Manana Foundation awards bursaries to five deserving women

This is part of the Mduduzi Manana Foundation’s programme to empower women through education and entrepreneurship.

The Mduduzi Manana Foundation awarded five bursaries to deserving women to study at Damelin College at the Ermelo Inn recently.

This is part of the foundation’s program to empower women through education and entrepreneurship.

The handover was also part of their of International Women’s Day celebration, a day celebrated globally on 8 March.

Chairman of the foundation, member of parliament and National Executive Council (NEC) member of the ANC, Mr Mduduzi Manana, was in attendance to hand over the bursaries.

“I am a firm believer that education is the tool to eradicate poverty and better one’s life,” said Mr Manana, who gave the keynote address.

The foundation worked hand in hand with Msukaligwa Municipality’s youth desk to find women with disadvantaged backgrounds in Ermelo, who have excelled at Grade 12 level.

Beneficiaries of the bursaries are Ms Siphiwe Sibanyoni (32), Ms Nomzamo Mabuza (30), Ms Bongiwe Nkambule (20), Ms Zinhle Nhlabathi (23) and Ms Makhosazana Sigudla (20).

They will study through the college for 18 months in fields of Information Technology and Human Resources.

“We are grateful and will do our utmost best and make Mr Manana proud,” Ms Sibanyoni, said.

Acclaimed actress, gender activist and businesswoman, Ms Rami Chuene, gave a motivational talk, wishing them well as they embark on their academic journey.

The foundation will monitor the beneficiaries and provide academic assistance.

Mr Manana calls Ermelo home, having been born and raised here.

He was the deputy minister for Higher Education and Training before he stepped down last year after he was convicted of three counts of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm after the assault of three women at Cubana in Fourways on August 6.
