Practice these pool safety tips

Always remember to keep a careful eye on children whilst they’re splashing around in the pool.

A popular way of spending Christmas and the rest of the holiday is enjoying the variety of scrumptious foods and delicious drinks near the poolside.

And an easy way to keep your kids occupied is by allowing them to have fun in the pools.

However, without realising it, we can become so easily distracted by everything else that’s happening around us that we may forget to keep a careful eye on children whilst they’re splashing around in the pool.

It is important to be cautious at all times so here are a few tips to keep everyone safe and secure in the water during the festive period:

  • Always explain the pool safety rules to kids/young children who wish to use the pool
  • Explain that there should be running next to the pool is a great rule, as it prevents slipping and falling.
  • Be certain that the pool is deep enough. If not, make a ‘no diving’ rule.
  • Don’t allow any electrical appliances near the pool.
  • Keep the pool off limits if there is no supervision.
  • Even strong swimmers need adult supervision. Insist on life jackets for children who can’t swim.
  • Be certain to have a first aid kit nearby.
  • Keep pets away from the pool while people are swimming. Pets may get underfoot and a child could end up falling into the pool and drown.
  • Do not allow bicycles or tricycles around the pool.
  • When the pool is not in use, always ensure that it is well covered with a pool net to ensure little kids from accidentally falling inside.
