Residents of Everest Park block road protesting over the lack of service delivery

They are lamenting the fact that the municipality has not addressed their frustrations over the power cuts and lack of water.

Residents of Everest Park in Wesselton blocked the N11 Hendrina Road in the early hours of last Friday in protest about the lack of service delivery in the area.

They are lamenting the fact that the municipality has not addressed their frustrations over the power cuts and lack of water.

“Everyday at random times, our electricity is cut off.

“We have no water.

“Our taps are dry.

“We have contacted the municipality on several occasions, but nothing is done,” one resident said.

Emotions boiled over and residents took to the streets.

Police were called after tyres were burnt with residents not letting any vehicle through.

“It is frustrating that every time there is a gust of wind or thunder is heard, our electricity is cut off.

“The municipality must do something, we cannot live like this,” another resident said.

The crowd dispersed after a Msukaligwa municipal official addressed them, ensuring them the issues will be addressed accordingly.

The protest came as residents of informal settlements in Wesselton marched to the municipality and district municipality in recent weeks to hand over memorandums regarding the lack of service delivery.
