TYT raises funds for deserving grade 12 learners

Township Youth Transformation (TYT) held their first annual gala evening at the Civic Centre last Thursday.

The aim of the evening was to raise funds for academically gifted, disadvantaged children, currently studying grade 12, who cannot afford registration fees at institutions of higher learning.

The organisation founded in early 2014 helps learners prepare for their exams by assisting them Mathematics and Science as well as mentoring them about their journey after Grade 12.

They motivate young people to stay in school, hone their talents, skills, give them tools to execute their goals and that higher education is a possibility.

Learners who will benefit from the funds are those currently doing grade 12 or ones who matriculated last year.

This year alone the organisation has achieved more than they set out to do and they currently assist three students at tertiary level.

Their goal is to have more than 10 children register for tertiary education in the coming year.

This saw the birth of a gala evening where various stakeholders with financial muscle donated towards the cause.

The public was invited to buy tickets ranging from R200 to R10 000.

TYT’s goal for the evening was to raise more than a R150 000.

“The gala is just a drop in the ocean, we are engaging with other stakeholders in order to reach our target,” said TYT chairman, Ayanda Nkosi.

TYT’s next project will be a Christmas party for vulnerable children of Msukaligwa.

“We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to those who opened their pockets and is helping the dreams of disadvantaged youth.”

“In this, you are saying it is possible for every child living in the township.”
