Wesselton gunman’s vehicle hits pole

When noticing the police, he fled in a Volkswagen Polo with the police following him

The Ermelo police are investigating a case of attempted murder after a suspect is reported to have fired shots outside a tavern in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Policemen were on patrol in Wesselton when they heard the shots being fired.

As the police approached the tavern, they reportedly saw a man running away.

He was firing shots in the direction of two parked vehicles outside the tavern.

When noticing the police, he fled in a Volkswagen Polo with the police following him.

He was driving recklessly and skipped robots and stop signs.

His car hit an electric pole close to a Primary School and came to a stop,  whereafter he jumped out and run away but was caught by alert men and women.

A pistol and live rounds were found in his possession.

Apparently the man is an employee at the Department of Correctional Service but at this stage it is not clear whether the firearm is an official weapon or privately owned.

Police were later informed that a man was admitted to a local hospital with a gun shot wound to the face and an investigation is underway to determine whether the two incidents are related.
