KwaMabuza residents march to Civic Centre over service delivery

The residents are up in arms over the lack of housing, water, electricity and sanitation that is a sore point for most Ermelo communities.

Residents of KwaMabuza in Ward 9 went on a protected strike last Wednesday to protest the lack of service delivery by Msukaligwa Municipality.

The residents are up in arms over the lack of housing, water, electricity and sanitation that is a sore point for most Ermelo communities.

“It is not easy, the way we live. We have no water to drink and use communal toilets and as a community we are tired”, said one community member.

The community is in a predicament as the land they built on is a farm which was owned by one individual however an agreement on 2 July 2013 was entered into with the municipality that it will buy the land.

This saw it getting services such as water tanks, communal toilets, roads and a voting station as it was election year.

More permanent solutions were in the pipeline but residents say nothing has come to fruition.

A signed petition and memorandum was handed over to the Executive Mayor, Mr M.S Nkosi, who signed and promised a response within the allocated seven days.

In the memorandum the community demands water tanks with immediate effect while the issue of water taps is in process, electricity within the period of six months, a mobile clinic and roads to be fixed however the demands are based on the in activeness of the land seeing as it has no ownership.

“We have decided as a community that enough is enough, we cannot still be struggling with basic services in this day and age. If nothing happens after seven days we will take action”, said community leader Rethabile Mofokeng.

Mr Nkosi acknowledged the community, informing them he will take the matter to the relevant people within the municipality.
