Coffers of the Msukaligwa Local Municipality will soon receive a boost upon approval of the Gert Sibande District Municipal (GSDM) Integrated Development Plan (IDP) draft budget.

From the draft budget which will be allocated to all seven local municipalities, Msukaligwa Local Municipality will receive R550 000 to use for water quality testing, R140 000 for sanitation and R170 000 for the maintenance of boreholes.

R3-million is earmarked for the Msukaligwa water supply scheme.

The municipality will also benefit from the R5-million pothole repair projects for which GSDM Executive Mayor, Mr Muzi Chirwa says youth co-operatives should be trained and appointed to do the job.

The district municipality has also set aside R500 000 for donations which would be used to assist non-profit organisations, individuals and other structures who are involved in communities.

Preference will go to community driven initiatives and the funding will be managed by the mayor’s office.

Academically deserving learners will benefit from the R2-million set aside for bursaries with the criteria having changed as the top students in each municipality will be chosen.

The final budget will be presented at the State of the District address set to take place on 25 May at the Gert Sibande District Municipality.
