Genetic disorder won’t steal Sibusiso’s future

Sibusiso already underwent four operations and said the last operation damaged his nerves and also affected his mouth.

Sibusiso Lubisi (15) suffers from Neurofibromatosis (NF), a genetic disorder, and is not willing to let it keep him from achieving his future ambitions.

Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disorder characterised by the development of multiple noncancerous (benign) tumors of nerves and skin (neurofibromas) and areas of abnormal skin colour (pigmentation).

His confidence is however noticeable when he speaks about becoming the first pilot from Ext 25 in the future.

“I developed a love for aircrafts at a young age and always wished to go to the airport to see them or get a chance to fly, but I will soon be flying them.”

Sibusiso’s mother, Ms Mabel Lubisi, said her son was born with a mark and they never suspected it would turn into something big.

A small lump below his ear began to develop when he was seven years old.

They went to the hospital where the doctor diagnosed him with the Neurofibromatosis genetic disorder.

His mother said as he grows up, the tumor also keeps getting bigger.

Sibusiso already underwent four operations and said the last operation damaged his nerves and also affected his mouth.

“My mother told me I am due for another operation, but I am afraid to return to hospital because they damaged my nerves,” added Sibusiso.

He wishes to get a good specialist or a good Samaritan who can pay for a private hospital.

Sibusiso said they do not have a medical aid and he has to go to a government hospital.
