Ermelo based firefighters from Working on Fire (WOF) in Mpumalanga concluded training on 13 April for the upcoming Winter Fire Season.

Ermelo based firefighters from Working on Fire (WOF) in Mpumalanga concluded training on 13 April for the upcoming Winter Fire Season.

They took part in the Yellow Card Training Camps hosted across the province aimed at ensuring that firefighters are fit and ready to be deployed.

The training consists of a 2,4 kilometer run, push ups, pull ups and advanced firefighting techniques.
WOF Provincial Communications Officer, Lebogang Maseko, said as a result of the ongoing drought experienced throughout the country, they do expect a very difficult Winter Fire Season, but firmly believe that through partnerships with Provincial Disaster Management Centres, Fire Protection Associations, various
private and public landowners and local municipalities, they will be able to have a rapid response in rendering highly skilled veld fire suppression services.

She added that preparations for the fire season are underway as they will also launch Community Fire
Awareness Campaigns throughout the province in May, targeting farming communities, areas that are prone to fire risks and timber and forestry industries.
